of Fixed Assets Maintenance on the post of the director of
the Institute of Systems Research and in 1987 he was
appointed director of this Centre, which in 1992 was
transformed into Institute for Sustainable Technologies in
Radom and in 2005 was awarded the status of National

50 published abroad, including 7 books (2 monographs) that
mainly deal with the following fields: machine maintenance
and manufacturing, materials engineering, methodology of
scientific research, methods of knowledge transformation for
industrial applications. Professor Mazurkiewicz was
a supervisor of two doctoral students who got their degree
with honourable mention and at present he also supervises
two other, almost completed, doctoral dissertations. The
professor is also an author of numerous reviews of
scientific and qualification papers. He led and participated
in the realisation of several dozen scientific and
development works which usually resulted in significant
industrial implementations. He was directly responsible for
the realization of national and international programmes,
e.g. in 1990-92 he managed a programme established by the
Ministry of Industry RPBR-15 “Rationalisation of fixed
assets maintenance in the industry” and in 1998-2001 he was
the manager of several scientific programmes within the
framework of governmental agreements with China and Ukraine.
At present he is in charge of a unique in the county-scale

international scientific conferences, including such
important ones as: Euromaintenace, Congresses on Technical
Diagnostics, Congresses on Technical Devices Maintenance and
Congresses on Reliability and Safety.
He is a member of programme councils of several significant
scientific Polish and foreign journals, e.g. “Maintenance
Problems of Machines”, “Problems of Working Machines”,
“Physical surface engineering”, “Friction and wear”,
“Tribology” and also the editor-in-chief of scientific
bulletins “Maintenance Problems”, as well as the scientific
editor of the monographic series “Library of Maintenance
Problems”. Already the fifth term, by election, he has been
a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute for
Sustainable Technologies – National Research Institute. He

European Materials Research Society (France), a real member
of Engineers Academy in Poland, a member of Polish
Academic-Economic Forum, as well as a member of
International Team of Advisers of the Advanced Technology
Centre RIMAMI. He is a representative of the Minister of
Sciences and Information for activities in the Mazovian
