The scientific, research and development activity of the Tribology Department comprises the problems of friction, wear and lubricating of components of machines, with particular attention paid to test methods and devices.

The main directions of the research are the following:

• scientific investigation of friction and wear processes,
• methodology for testing tribological properties of engineering materials and lubricants,
• methods aimed at increasing the life of friction pairs,
• the development of tribotesters and laboratory equipment for tribological investigations.

The Tribology Department consists of the following units: Tribological Testing Laboratory, Air-conditioned Tribological Testing Laboratory and Laboratories of Scanning Microscopy and Metrology.

The Department’s Laboratories are equipped with modern and the most complementary set of tribotesters in Poland. In the Department’s laboratories a quality system has been implemented.
